WhatsApp Payment Reminders: Send the Pay Link, Then Check If It Was Paid

Last updated: October 2026

A reminder that makes people hunt for the payment page gets ignored. This page shows a WhatsApp payment reminder flow that sends a Razorpay link in the message and follows up only if the link is still unpaid.

How does the flow work?

  1. Trigger the flow when a payment becomes due: a signed webhook from your billing system, a tag, or a bulk campaign to a list.
  2. Create the link with the Payment Link step: amount in paise, description, and optionally the customer's name, phone and an expiry. See Razorpay on WhatsApp.
  3. Send the reminder as an approved template (a utility message about an existing obligation) with the link.
  4. Wait with the Delay step, for example two days.
  5. Check status with the Check Payment Status step, which reports paid, pending, failed or error.
  6. Branch: if paid, send a receipt message and stop. If pending, send one gentle second reminder. If it is still unpaid after that, hand it to a person with Human Handoff rather than sending more.

Sample reminder wording

Hello {{1}}, your payment of Rs {{2}} for {{3}} is due on {{4}}. You can pay securely here: {{5}}. If you have already paid, please ignore this message.

Keep payment reminders factual and about a real obligation. Aggressive wording triggers blocks and reports, which lowers your quality rating; see how to send bulk WhatsApp messages without getting banned.

Where does it fit?

What are the limits?

  • You need your own Razorpay account connected. Payments settle there under Razorpay's terms.
  • Status is checked when the step runs, so place it after a delay, not immediately after sending.
  • Templates need Meta approval, and each reminder is a billable utility message.
  • It does not replace your accounting. Record paid or pending status in your own system, for example through the API or a Google Sheet step.
  • This page describes what the integration does today, including its limits. If you need something it does not do, our custom integration service scopes it as a project.

Frequently asked questions

Can I send payment links in WhatsApp reminders?

Yes. Add the Payment Link step to a flow, set the amount in paise and a description, and put the generated URL in the reminder template. You need your own Razorpay account connected.

Can the flow stop reminding people who have paid?

Yes. After a delay, the Check Payment Status step reports paid, pending, failed or error, and the flow can end for paid links and send one follow-up for pending ones.

Do payment reminders need an approved template?

Yes, because they are sent outside the 24-hour customer window. They fit the utility category when they concern an existing obligation.

Will too many reminders hurt my account?

They can. Repeated or aggressive messages lead to blocks and reports, which lowers your quality rating. Send one or two, then hand over to a person.
