# Set a contact’s tags `PUT /api/contacts/{phone}/tags` (operationId: `updateContactTags`, group: Contacts) Replaces the contact’s tags with this comma-separated list. Newly added tags fire the Tag Added automation trigger. Send version (an integer, from an earlier response) to make the write conditional: if someone else changed the contact meanwhile the call answers 412 version_conflict with the current value instead of overwriting it, and a successful versioned write returns the new version and an ETag. Part of the core API, included in the Growth and Scale plans. Any one of these scopes is enough: `contacts`. **Parameters** | Name | In | Type | Required | Description | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | `phone` | path | string | yes | Contact phone number with the country code, digits only. A leading + is accepted. A 10-digit number with no country code is treated as Indian (91 is added). | **Request body** (JSON, required) | Field | Type | Required | Description | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | `tags` | string | no | Tags. | | `version` | integer | no | Optional. The version you last saw, for a conditional write. Range 1... | Example: ```json { "tags": "vip, hosting" } ``` **Response 200**: Saved. Example: ```json { "success": true, "tags": "vip, hosting" } ``` **Errors specific to this call.** The common ones (401, 403, 429 and the rest) are in the [Errors guide](https://inboxwa.online/docs/api/guide/errors.md). | Status | error | When | | --- | --- | --- | | 412 | `version_conflict` | Someone else changed the contact since the version you sent. | Part of the InboxWA API reference: https://inboxwa.online/docs/api .
